Creatures with the static abilities Deathtouch and Indestructible are both more than impressive when compared to standard creatures.

In fact, even the smallest of common creatures are more fearsome and powerful when equipped or enchanted with either one of these two abilities even when compared with uncommon, rare, and legendary creature cards.

But, the real question you’re here for is whether or not Deathtouch kills Indestructible; and the answer is no, it does not.

Indestructible creatures are exactly as the ability makes them, for the most part: completely and utterly indestructible.

That means even the most powerful spells and abilities, such as Deathtouch or Destruction, don’t phase them.

But, for a talented MTG player, with the right cards, there are ways around the ability.

From removing the card from the game to taking control of it or removing its abilities, there are ways to deal with Indestructible creatures… you just have to think outside of the box.

We expand on the when, how, and why, below in the FAQs section!

FAQs About Deathtouch and Indestructible

Why Can’t You Destroy Indestructible Creatures?

A creature with Indestructible can not be destroyed as a normal creature may be. The creatures still take damage as any other creature does, the damage just doesn’t kill them. Likewise, spells and abilities that target and deal damage or destroy creatures are entirely useless against them.

When Is Indestructible Blockable?

Creatures that have Indestructible are still able to be blocked by your creatures, they just won’t die from the damage they receive from your blockers. For that reason, unless your creatures have a toughness higher than an Indestructible creature’s attack power, it is not wise to block.

How Do You Deal With Indestructible Creatures?

Where there is a will, there is a way, and Indestructible creatures can be dealt with in several manners. The best way to deal with them is to target and exile them from the game.

Other ways to render them less dangerous is to use a removal spell that takes away their abilities, enchant them with something that taps them or keeps them from untapping or attacking, or even taking control of the creature and using it against its owner.

Final Thoughts

The main takeaway here is that Deathtouch is pretty much useless against an Indestructible creature unless you first use a removal spell to take away its ability. Once a creature loses its ability, it’s just as helpless against Deathtouch as any other creature. Otherwise, Deathtouch won’t ever affect an Indestructible creature.
